It’s quite common to see discussions like How to choose between Nosql and SQL? or even questions that question which bank is best. When reading more deeply we see that each type of bank seeks to solve a type of specific problem, which usually has as a consequence it adapt very well with a solution and very badly in other.

This week I came across in a video with the Edgedb:

The next Generation database

Edgedb combines the simplicity of a Nosql database with Relational model’s Powerful querying, strictness, Consistency, and performance.

The description seems to seek to merge the two relational worlds and Nosql.

In order to better understand this tool:

  • What is the Edgedb?
  • What This Nosql Relational Combination Really Means?

Don’t you know it? I didn’t either, but I was interested if they did something good or it’s marketing, if I found out I came to tell you: https://i.stack.Imgur.com/Mwrpg.jpg

" How to choose between Nosql and SQL? " from what little I read, we’ll have to update this question if this Edgedb really is "forward": " How to choose between Nosql, SQL and Sql? " or "How to choose between Nosql, SQL and Mixedsql".

I don’t know if I’ll answer, but from what I understand is Postgresql, which is great for almost everything you need to do in the relational model, and solves well or very well most scenarios where one would think about Nosql, and if you just consider the document model almost all scenarios, And they put a layer on top to facilitate access in the way that they think it should be and that maybe it attracts people who like Nosql but can’t learn traditional relational logic. That is, nothing new, to do what you couldn’t do before. It reinforces that pure Nosql is rarely useful.

The term "Nosql" is already a problem. xbase always accessed DB Relational without needing SQL, want more "no sql" than that. The fact of being graph or relational is totally independent of the language or interface to obtain the data. Probably the linked question would be "use relational and non-relational" or "relational or graph", which is worth it. The fact that the term inappropriate has been enshrined for the non-relational reflects much of the public that uses without knowing well the reason..

  • At the moment I’m watching https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xn9kumWbjGU to see if it says something interesting.

@Bacco, which is what I speak in https://answall.com/q/96409/101 and https://answall.com/q/14533/101. Watching the video, the guy says we don’t think with tables. He can do that, and a lot of people might have gotten into this, but I think with tables, just like I prefer composition to inheritance. It is probably a product for nutelados.
