How do I insert a social counter into my website?

I would like to insert a social counter on my website, however I don’t want anything from outside services (use iframes for example), such as Shareholic.

I want something more internal, via API or something like.

Does anyone have any tips on how to do this?

Note: I do not use any CMS, only a small site made in PHP.

Do you have any database on the site?

Yes, it worked perfectly! But I had to make some settings for the wisgets to appear in English, but the plugin is show!
