I have a problem that is the following, I have a system where the user will upload a standard label, made in Zebra Designer (ex: etiqueta.lbl), for your products and according to the product that it will print the label on the Zebra printer, in it will have to be generated a barcode with some product information, for this I used the Barbecue library for barcode, but I need to edit the label to be able to insert the same.

I performed some tests editing fixed texts on the label by the own Notepad++, where it is possible to recognize some words, and when edited there, if the new word is the same size as the old one, there is no error when opening the file by Zebra’s own software, Zebra Designer, but the change is not applied, and if the new word is larger or smaller, gives an error when opening the same by the software, as shown in the images:

  • Label in the Zebra Designer program.

    Etiqueta no Zebra Designer.

  • Label on the Notepad++.

Etiqueta no Notepad++. - Error said above.

How I would edit a label, creating own tags for replacement on the standard label, in Java?

  • If it is for zebra printer, you would have to use the ZPL language (or EPL if the firmware supports it). There is an online site that you can view the label that is in ZPL format, it may help you: http://labelary.com/viewer.html It is possible to generate the ethic in ZPL format by Zebradesigner as well. If you need more tips just ask. Good luck.

  • In case, how would I save in ZPL direct from Zebradesigner and how I would send this ZPL file to be printed in Zebra using USB?

  • I’m without the zebradesigner. But if I’m not mistaken you have an option to print on file somewhere. And this file will have a ZPL-like language. To have it printed, you would have to send the String in ZPL format directly to the printer. Since I’m not at work, tomorrow I’ll answer to you in more detail. Good luck.

  • Good morning, I am waiting for more details mainly on how to print. Please, thank you for the help!
