Do you know if anything has changed in google? any settings in the API?

Google maps requires a key for all your projects, from 11 de June de 2018 ;).
Part that talks about it:
As of June 11, 2018, you will need to activate billing with a credit card. In addition, you will need to have a valid API key for all projects.

Apparently yes, I believe that right away you will have to add a credit card and activate it in the google maps dashboard, this is being put in their documentation and featured.

Yes and no. You have a "free" credit, well enough if you only view the maps. If you want to calculate travel time, routes etc... you also have a little credit, but you will consume and you will need to pay. Go to https://developers.google.com/ to read everything quietly because it is a "little" confusing!!
