Cannot load file or Assembly 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel'

I am trying to open an old ASP.NET project on my machine and I am getting the following error when I try to run it to view in the browser:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Configuration Error

Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately. 

Parser Error Message: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' or one of its dependencies. O sistema não pode encontrar o arquivo especificado.

  • You already checked the project references to see if this dll is there?

  • Um...not...I’ll take a look at how I check this out.

  • If you are using Visual Studio, right-click the project, click "Property Pages". It will open a window with all references.

  • Yes, the reference with the name Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel is there. But still the error persists.
