I am currently using Visual Studio 2012, and to create window applications, I need to use C++/CLI, but I saw that it is outdated (wikipedia). What would be another alternative? Wxwidgets is recommended?

wxWidgets is excellent and quite complete. Vc also has several other component libraries to choose from.

Now do not confuse component library with GUI to mount screens. They are 2 separate things. No software to assemble screens will suit you completely. Soon the screen becomes too complex for any screen assembler to follow. You can use wxFormBuilder or wxSmith from Code::Blocks to mount the initial version. Then take the code and put in your program including the future components "in hand".

Codelite has a more updated GUI editor than wxFormBuilder and wxSmith. Link.

My opinion is that this library is very bad. The "answer" is totally an opinion.

For C++ I recommend a look at Qt, which goes far beyond windows. Now, it is a complicated question, because it attracts answers of "evangelization", both because it is very open and because it depends on opinions.
