I have a system and I want to certify it. My idea is ISO 9001.

What do I need to do? What are the requirements to obtain this certification?

I should look for a company to get certification or there are other means to certify the application, such as paying only for approval?

The ISO 9001 standard is normally used for quality management in companies and organizations, but can be perfectly used for quality management of a system development, in theory.

In order to meet the implementation of the standard, the interested party must take account of a number of requirements, such as the production of documentation on the processes adopted and the respective quality premises used in this quality control, such as the use of software only for this purpose, for example.

It is not common to have the application of the standard in the development of the software because the standard does not bring agility to the development, besides increasing the whole process. What is more common is terms available in the market systems that make this quality control and consequent correct application of the standard.

Implementation and certification by the ISO standard are two separate steps, usually done by consulting firms, who visit the business with the function of finding and mitigating procedural problems. In its context, two things can be homologated:

  • The process of developing your software;
  • Your software, which may have been done to meet quality management in a company and the consequent compliance with the standard.
