In Computing, in English, the adjective is used portable to qualify a programming language that can be easily used on different platforms, allowing the same program to run on these platforms without the need to change the source code.

Like the expression portable language is best translated into English in this context?

Edited: This question is about programming concepts terminology and I think it might fit the topic theoretical doubts about concepts and practices applied to software development. However, if considered off-topic here, do not know which forum could be more appropriate.

Portable language. At least I see no difficulty in understanding how to translate like this.

  • I also thought of this translation, but I do not find in the dictionary a meaning for portável that fits into the context. In Aurelio I find ¹ 1. It says the obligation or debt that has to be paid at the domicile of the creditor. 2. It is said that this is how payment is made. ² 1. Which can be carried or carried.

@The second definition does the job. Something that can be carried or carried from one place to another is exactly the idea of portability. Don’t expect to find technical terms in common dictionaries.
