What is Spring MVC?

I am developing a web java project and am using the MVC (Model-view-controller),which is a standard software architecture (Pattern design) and know that its function is to separate the representation of information from the user’s interaction with it.
So my question is what exactly would be the Spring MVC. What are its main characteristics?
I would like a short explanation of the main features.
