Doubt about the Searchview

I am a beginner in programming and Android and have researched a lot and watched many video lessons and I’m in big trouble regarding the search with searchview. I, despite searching, testing and testing I’m not able to understand how to make a search engine in my app.

My app is a feeding app of my diet that has an Activity with the categories of foods (fruits, vegetables, vegetables, cereals, etc.) and within these categories have the foods, for example in fruits have apple, banana, papaya, in arugula vegetables, watercress, lettuce and so on. I want when I click on foods to open an Activity with a food image, an audio talking about food and food texts.

What happens is that I want to do a searchview that fetches the foods from the categories and gives suggestions as I type the letters and when I click on the search suggestion option or when I type the food name in full open the food Activity. It’s just that I’ve read a lot, and I’ve researched and watched videos, and I’m having trouble doing this searchview. Many videos explain with examples, but in these examples there is a lot that I will not use and as I am beginner do not know what changes I have to make from the example of videos to my application, I tried to copy and paste some code from websites and make necessary changes that I thought should be made but it still didn’t work.

I would like to ask, please, if any colleague can teach me how to make this search engine geared towards my application. I apologize for being such a beginner, but I’m learning and I’m in so much need of help with this.

I even thought about paying someone to do this part of the app for me so hard that it’s about to make it.

If anyone prefer to teach me by skype can be, otherwise it can be here by the forum itself I thank you very much.

Sincerely yours,

Phil

Hello Phil, welcome to Sopt. Your question seemed too broad for the template of this site. This isn’t exactly a forum, but you can certainly get a lot of answers here, as long as they fit the site. Although it is very clear, and potentially interesting to other users, it is too broad, and it would be necessary to write a tutorial, not an objective answer. I advise you to read some tutorials, go trying to implement the search engine, and as you receive errors, post them here, along with the code.

To better understand how Sopt works, take a look at tour, and, in the Help Center, especially in this topic.
