It is considered spam if you are posting the URL on third-party posts without adding anything related to the post. Anyway, I believe that this does not do much for pagerank because the links you have on pages on the same subject are more taken into account and not randomly. In addition, social media traffic is usually more targeted and organic traffic is more valuable. Of course it is important to have your site present on social networks.
