I have only used shared servers with the Opencart platform for years, however I could really use a store in Magento now, but I read that it can be slow and does not work well in shared accommodation so I would have to go to a VPS. I wonder if it’s really necessary to have a VPS and if so, what I should learn and where?

I have been researching and I apologize for my ignorance but I have been watching the vps of digitalocean and it has this functionality https://www.digitalocean.com/features/one-click-apps/ would it be easier for a novice user like me to install Ubuntu or Centos, LAMP and Magento in VPS, is that enough? What more could I need? I also saw the serverpilot.io panel that I think would make things a little easier and from what they say installs a firewall, will be sufficiently secure?

I have no experience in VPS is certain but I am willing to learn what is necessary. I hope I have been clear in my questions.

Thank you in advance for your help!

  • initially, if you do not know I recommend using a company that has this knowledge not to generate problems mainly with the platform

  • Managed to solve your problem?

  • li que pode ser lento -> reading by reading, I have also read that the Earth is flat and that drinking water gives cancer. Don’t just stick to reading, get your hands dirty and find out the truth.

The VPS or Cloud Server are the best solutions to use Magento in your projects. The size of the memory and processor depends a lot on how many stores and how many daily accesses the server will have. You can have multiple stores and thousands of hits, but you’ll need more processor, ram, disk space and internet bandwidth. If it’s just a store, a 512Mb cloud from digital Ocean might be enough.

Regarding the operating system, I recommend Ubuntu which is better for beginners than Centos. You will need to know about linux commands, and how to install LAMP. And, not only that, you will probably need to install PHP modules, which in Ubuntu is extremely easy.

Serverpilot can be a viable and safe solution for your environment. Remembering that the main security problem of these portals and online stores today, is the use of server (hosting) shared, as it opens vulnerabilities for your applications, so a VPS server or Cloud are safer solutions. If you care about security, remember to always use the latest versions of the software (Magento, Lamp, PHP, etc).

To install, considering that you will use the latest version, follow the installation documentation:

Installation Magento 2.0

Any doubt, we are there! Hug!
