IIS 7 sites, working with domainname.com not www.domainname.com. DNS problem?

Question

I have my domain name registered with Asphostportal and pointing to my IIS server where I have an ASP.net MVC application deployed. To achieve this I simply have an input log that points to the IP address of my IIS server.

The link name of my web application IIS is domainname.com. I can hit is just fine in the browser. However, when I try to hit www.domainname.with it hits the standard IIS website. How do I get both domainname.com and www.domainname.com to hit my web application. I need a special A registration or CNAME input?

Also, I would like * .domainname.com to hit my app as well. There is a way to do this on DNS or IIS?

This can occur when your dominio.com was not added as A record and the domain www not added as CNAME (Canonical Name Record).

Try to check on your hosting if your domain is configured this way:

domainname.com — NS — NS1.DOMINIO.COM.
domainname.com — NS — NS2.DOMINIO.COM.
domainname.com — A — ENDEREÇO IP
www — CNAME — domainname.com
