Web Service returning invalid value

Good people, recently I asked a question with the title:

Application displaying this error: Error Parsing data org.json.Jsonexception

But by researching I came to a different conclusion in which I had created the question, so I’m creating a new one...

The error is as follows, I set up a Web Service for my application to consume and whenever my application accesses it returns with a null value, searching on the localhost I get it:

{"products":[{"pid":"1","name":"iPhone","price":"4500.00","created_at":"2015-02-18 20:02:20","updated_at":null},
             {"pid":"2","name":"Motorola Moto G 2014","price":"800.00","created_at":"2015-02-19 18:56:46","updated_at":null},
             {"pid":"4","name":"LG G3","price":"1200.00","created_at":"2015-02-19 21:49:25","updated_at":null}],"success":1}

But I suspect that the "[]" are implying, I don’t know right, I never know with JSON and I don’t know if the problem is in my Java class or if it is in my Web Service...

My get_all_products.php:

<?php

/*
 * Following code will list all the products
 */

// array for JSON response
$response = array();

// include db connect class
require_once __DIR__ . '/db_connect.php';

// connecting to db
$db = new DB_CONNECT();

// get all products from products table
$result = mysql_query("SELECT *FROM products") or die(mysql_error());

// check for empty result
if (mysql_num_rows($result) > 0) {
    // looping through all results
    // products node
    $response["products"] = array();

    while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) {
        // temp user array
        $product = array();
        $product["pid"] = $row["pid"];
        $product["name"] = $row["name"];
        $product["price"] = $row["price"];
        $product["created_at"] = $row["created_at"];
        $product["updated_at"] = $row["updated_at"];

        // push single product into final response array
        array_push($response["products"], $product);
    }
    // success
    $response["success"] = 1;

    // echoing JSON response
    echo json_encode($response);
} else {
    // no products found
    $response["success"] = 0;
    $response["message"] = "Produto nao Encotrado";

    // echo no users JSON
    echo json_encode($response);
}
?>

Error parsing data org.json.JSONException: Value <br of type java.lang.String cannot be converted to JSONObject

And it happens when I try to run a search of all products registered in my database...

Could someone help me? I’ve done a lot of research and none solved my mistake...

  • Can you tell which line the error occurs?

  • The brackets are part of the Json. of a read here will help you a lot http://www.json.org/

  • @Andréribeiro fired my full Logcat, take a look at it and Voce will see the bugs, and also added my Jsonparser class if it helps... you know what might be? I really need to make that connection...

  • No one knows what it can be?

First of all I don’t know if you are using, but I recommend using these two tools to work and validate your Json, before consuming in the App.

1- http://jsonformatter.curiousconcept.com/ Validates the format of your JSON,

2 - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/postman-rest-client/fdmmgilgnpjigdojojpjoooidkmcomcm You can test the consumption of your webservice,

The problem seems to really be the null value, you will have to leave the "updated_at":"" or so "updated_at":"null"

What you can do to see if you can make this suit:

$product["updated_at"] = $row["updated_at"] == null ? "" : $row["updated_at"];

Looking at your Logcat, you can see the error at the time of null conversion.

02-20 21:41:30.836: E/Androidruntime(1950): Caused by: java.lang.Nullpointerexception: Attempt to invoke virtual method 'java.lang.String org.json.Jsonobject.toString()' on a null Object Reference
