Configure external access to a local Magento server

I have a 64 bit Ubuntu server configured on a virtual machine (Virtualbox) using the Bitnami installation package with Magento. I can normally access the application via any computer on my network via the local installation address (e.g.: 192.168.25.30).

The challenge here would be to set up so that I can access from outside this network, through the internet. I’ve researched some port-forwading topics, NAT network and the like.

My settings:

Windows 8.1 as main OS;

Ubuntu 64 bit Linux Server (Virtualbox);

Bitnami site Magento installation package;

In the virtual machine network configuration, I left it in bridge mode;

I did the port redirection coming from port 80 to the local target ip of the server at port 80 as well (I did not fill the source ip because I was in doubt if I should put the external ip);

Someone has already set up something similar or has a better alternative to display what was developed in Magento without me having a hosting?

  • You can release your 80 input port and connect it to your PC, if it is a simple use case I imagine it is I suggest using something like hamachi

  • I’ve cleared port 80, but I haven’t tried Hamachi yet because he needs to install it on the machine of the people who are going to access the site. As a last resort.
