What are the cardinalities of the Indians?

Checking the Index using the following command:

show indexes from tabela_exemplo;

The column Cardinality left me in doubt. It holds an integer value for each index pointed to one or more columns corresponding to the Index.

  1. What is this cardinality?
  2. What is the relationship that cardinality has with Dexes?
