Well I’m starting to venture into Signalr. I decided to follow this Tutorial.

Good after doing all the steps, when executing the project presents me the following error:

Unhandled Exception at line 35, column 13 in http://localhost:54051/Index.html

0x800a138f - Javascript runtime error: Not possible get the indefinite or null reference client property

In the following part:

    // Create a function that the hub can call to broadcast messages.
    chat.client.broadcastMessage = function (name, message) {
        // Html encode display name and message.
        var encodedName = $('<div />').text(name).html();
        var encodedMsg = $('<div />').text(message).html();
        // Add the message to the page.
        $('#discussion').append('<li><strong>' + encodedName
            + '</strong>:&nbsp;&nbsp;' + encodedMsg + '</li>');
    };

Index:

            };
            // Get the user name and store it to prepend to messages.
            $('#displayname').val(prompt('Enter your name:', ''));
            // Set initial focus to message input box.
            $('#message').focus();
            // Start the connection.
            $.connection.hub.start().done(function () {
                $('#sendmessage').click(function () {
                    // Call the Send method on the hub.
                    chat.server.send($('#displayname').val(), $('#message').val());
                    // Clear text box and reset focus for next comment.
                    $('#message').val('').focus();
                });
            });
        });
    </script>
</body>
</html>

Chathub:

public class ChatHub : Hub
{
    public void Send(string name, string message)
    {
        // Call the broadcastMessage method to update clients.
        Clients.All.broadcastMessage(name, message);
    }
}

The mistake means that chat is coming null in this assignment:

var chat = $.connection.chatHub;

By all indications, you have not done step 8 of the tutorial, which is to register on Global.asax, at the event Application_Start, the following:

// Register the default hubs route: ~/signalr/hubs
RouteTable.Routes.MapHubs();
  • I had, only I was on the last line I changed the order and it worked!
