Assuming a function valida_email() that would return boolean:

Question

In PHP, how can we validate if the content of a variable is a well formatted email address as defined in RFC 6530?

Note: It does not matter if it exists or does not exist, it matters that it is a valid email address medians the existing rules that define its formatting, see RFC 6530 (English).

    I tested it on FB and Twitter and still do not accept such characters. Possibly it will be implemented on demand, even so it is a big problem that they arranged - if it was already complicated before, now then...

    So far there is nothing native to this, but I imagine it is nothing that a megalomaniac complex of Ers (gambiara) or integration with some translation platform (gambiarra da grossa) do not solve.

  • Every time I do this kind of validation, however much I break my head, I always have to solve it with regular expressions.

  • @Bacco In some scenarios this is enough, but in the case where you want to ensure that the address effectively will be able to be used you already need to check it thoroughly. For example, when you open a Gmail account, they certainly validate what you enter exhaustively to ensure that the account can be created and will then effectively serve for sending/receiving emails. :)

  • @Zuul, in fact, goes of the specific use same. I mentioned the alternative less restrictive for general use. If you have a system with specific requirements (for example the RFC mentioned), then it will really depend on some response working as expected :)

I looked it up and I saw in this reply by Soen a same query and it presents this Regex to validate. By the Regextester site, both were validated:

  • @Zuul tested it on a regex test site. There may be a problem here in the OS. Test on this link http://regex101.com/r/iI2fE9/2 Please give me both as a match
