How to separate HTTP and IMAP access from the same domain on separate servers?

I have a hosting account at Locaweb, of course IMAP and HTTP. I’m intending to migrate to AWS (Amazon Web Service). However, before making such a change, I first intend to change only access to the domain’s website (HTTP), and leave the IMAP email accounts still on Locaweb (same domain). The emails have 10GB, and I need to do this calmly.

An easy way to do this "redirecting"? I thought about going through the settings of DNS within Locaweb and redirect access to the site to the IP in AWS. But I don’t know if this will affect the email.

  • Hello, have you solved the dilemma? I’m in the same boat...

  • @Williambertan Yes, I did. It was bad, I forgot to put here the solution. Give me a few minutes to put here.

I solved the question as follows. The only step that is really different is the configuration in Locaweb. Settings in AWS usually occur as if you were creating a new domain.

Shares in Locaweb

  • I logged into DNS Manager

  • I changed the Entree "." (same point), of the kind "To", to the Public IP of my AWS instance (this means that the root folder forward is redirected to the IP)

  • Domain configuration remains normal at Locaweb

Shares in the AWS

  • I accessed the resource Route 53 and inserted a new "Hosted Zone" of my domain (before Locaweb) with all basic and normal settings of associating a Hosted Zone with an instance (here is the same IP of my instance in AWS that I configured above in Locaweb)

  • I do the normal configuration in Apache to receive the domain and root folder.

Thus, whenever I access HTTP (with or without WWW) it is redirected to AWS. If I access my email via Outlook for example, it works normally. Just like Webmail.
