Hello, on Google IO 2019 google has released this api for implementation. She calls herself in-app updates All you need to do is implement it in your app. Recalling that this new update format is available from Android 5.0 (API level 21).

If you use Firebase you can put the version variable in it through the Functions
, then in your app you can use the BuildConfig.VERSION_NAME
to make the comparison!
If you don’t use Firebase, endpoint your backend that returns the latest version of the app.

so... I’m using AWS I haven’t found an ideal way to solve this. I had to make the second option you suggested. I created an endpoint and I always consume it.
