Good afternoon, you guys, Today I came across a company that uses in production SQL SERVER Educational, I know that this is not correct because this tool is only for non-profit study. But even so, I would like to know if the educational version has limitations and/ or risks compared to other versions?

There is no "educational" version of SQL Server. There are some free versions, such as Express Edition and Developer Edition, which can be used for educational purposes.

And to answer the question, they have limited resources relative to the Enterprise.

Limitations:

  • Amount of data supported in the database is smaller
  • The number of nuclei is smaller
  • The amount of memory allocated is limited by instance

Among other limitations, however, for educational use or use as a small server, this does not impact. You can see the comparisons directly on the Microsoft website:

SQL Server Editions and Resursos

  • João, only the Express edition that has the limitations mentioned.
