Error while using urllib library

I’m trying to make a simple application Hello World taking a look at documentation with the library urllib with the aim of picking up content from a specific website.

I will refine the content I desire later.

I’m trying to run the following code:

import urllib.request

with urllib.request.urlopen('http://python.org/') as response:
    html = response.read()

And you’re presenting the following problem:

Could someone assist me in solving this?

It seems that the certificates are no longer installed automatically on Mac, you need to install them.

Run the following command to install certificates:

/Applications/Python\ 3.7/Install\ Certificates.command

Another way is to ignore the certificate, to ignore would look like this:

import ssl
context = ssl._create_unverified_context()
with urllib.request.urlopen('http://python.org/', context=context) as response:
    html = response.read()
  • Thanks for your attention @nosklo, running the command /Applications/Python\ 3.7/Install\ Certificates.command I was able to run the code and get the expected result.

    I put the OSX tag on the question, since the problem in this case is closely connected to the settings on that system. This error can also occur if the program is behind an incorrectly configured proxy (effectively being a man-in-the-Middle), in which case only putting options in the code and environment to ignore the certificates.

  • All right @jsbueno, thanks for the collaboration.
