Source code in Portuguese?

I am starting the development of a tool using Django/Python. This tool is directed to a specific application, so it will not be reused. The source code will not be published either.

However, at the end of the work I will leave the system in production in the companies, and wish other people (most likely Brazilian) can do maintenance or develop new functionalities.

My question is: should I develop the code in English or Portuguese?

By default, and respecting good practices, I always do everything in English, but in this case there is a very specific data model, and I will have to do non-trivial translations from Portuguese to English.

Also, for the reasons mentioned above, there does not seem to be any real need to leave the code in English.

What do you think? Should I write code in Portuguese or English?

  • Detail that the duplicate is a closed question.

  • Okay, it’s actually duplicated and the answer is happy. I hadn’t found the other question because it doesn’t use the term source code. I must delete this question?

  • I believe that there is no need to delete. I only pointed out that the system allowed to mark as duplicate a question subject to opinions that was closed.
