Is cookie use still worth it?

A long time ago I used Cookies in some of my applications and I confess that from there to here I have been working with Sessions.

Only today I need to use cookies again for an application and my question is:

With browser updates, it is still worth using a cookie, whether in PHP or any other programming languages, that is, there is currently some limitation, request for the user to enable the cookie and/or new rules to enable/allow cookies in the user’s browser?

My question is why the cookie will be fundamental in this application and if browsers are currently more "rigid" for this type of storage, I will need to look for another solution. I have seen on some websites, that they show a notification about cookies and ask if I accept or not this storage.

Particularly I like to use only cookies, why require your server if we can take advantage of the user’s machine? there are other alternatives today such as HTML5 Web Storage, in relation to the privacy policies of cookies https://answall.com/questions/222192/por-que-%C3%A9-important-inform us-Usu%C3%a1rios-a-politica-de-cookies

  • Hello Maniero. Actually I would like to know if it is worth today to store the information in Cookies, since we have had advances in browsers. If there are some limitations or permissions of browsers for this type of storage.

  • Duplicate would be exactly more of the link that Felipe Duarte passed ;)
