Windows with 32-bit has limited RAM capacity, so even acquiring more memory, the operating system does not recognize due to limitation. The limit of the 32-bit system is 4GB. In fact, it is the maximum amount of memory that the system can address (2 32 addresses == 4GB). However, part of this memory is reserved to avoid problems in performance and use due to lack of memory for processing.

As a suggestion, upgrade the Windows version to 64-bit.

  • If I were to install Windows 7 64-bit how could I know if the processor supports it or not?

Nathan, you should check the processor’s technical requirements before proceeding with the upgrade. Search the processor’s website for possible use.

I’ll add Beet’s comment to the answer. However, the Operating System does not use the full 4 GB, because it saves part of that amount for a "reserve", preventing the system to stop working for excessive use.
