What is the equivalence of RMI (Remote Method Invocation - Java) in C#?

    Equivalent even I don’t think it has. There is the Remoting framework, but that should not be used anymore. I do not know if the RMI is still used. Today the official recommendation is to use the WCF, but even it I wouldn’t recommend. I think it has simpler, lightweight solutions.

  • I asked the question because I saw an answer from you not recommending the use of WCF, but I believe that "for lack of you, go yourself" right? @bigown

I don’t know much about the MRI and I don’t know how far they’re not using the Jini in his stead.

So I’d say the .NET Remoting would be the direct replacement. However, the official recommendation is to use the WCF.

But many people do not use it either because it is something heavy and difficult to learn and use and have architecture problems. I have my doubts if it is not the same as the Java technologies. The fact is that they thought it was easy to make a framework that took care of all this with a good abstraction and flexibility, but this never worked out very well.

So if you really want to use Microsoft’s technology is WCF the equivalent, if you can use third-party technologies then the range is great, there are people using the Service Stack. But one has adopted other forms that do not depend on these great frameworks.

In fact the WCF is being retired, look for new technologies. It is in part recommended the gRPC.
