Power BI and SQL Server

I need to pass an integration budget to an SQL Server, but the work has a condition, the connection to the Power BI site, everywhere I read it does not make clear whether or not it is possible to connect the Power BI site to the Client’s SQL Server, that does not want to use the Power BI Desktop, nor use the database in Azure and also to leave for Analisys Services!!

It is possible for the Power BI site to access SQL Server on a DMZ server of my client?

  • Let’s not forget that the new version of Report Services is accepting reports in Power BI format, but there are license issues involved.

Response from the Power BI website itself

Power BI is available locally?

No, Power BI is not available as a private, internal cloud service. However, with Power BI and Power BI Desktop, you can securely connect to your own local data sources. With Local Data Gateway, you can dynamically connect to the local SQL Server Analysis Services server and other data sources. You can also perform the scheduled update with a centralized gateway. If a gateway is not available, it will be possible to update data from local data sources using Power BI Gateway - Personal.

You can also view local SQL Server mobile reports with Power BI iOS apps

Or Be Yes you have access to local data sources.

You must install on a machine that has access to SQL Server (can access over the network and have the drives properly installed) a local data gateway, and configure it with the Power BI access account, after uploading the report (for example), go on the Power BI server, access the Data sets + data flows, and configure the gateway connection with the credentials necessary to access the database. Power BI’s own online documentation can be useful to you through this link: https://docs.microsoft.com/pt-br/data-integration/gateway/service-gateway-install
