Popup.html interacts with Document?

Question

I’m a beginner in making extensions for Chrome and would like to do an Extension with the popup that contains some buttons that complete text fields from the page loaded on the active Tab. At the moment, I was only able to make the extension button itself complete these fields. It is possible to do by popup?
