I have Visual Studio 2017 installed on Windows. And on my Mac Xcode.

To compile projects in VS 2017 via Windows, I can connect to a Mac, Via Macagent.

My question is, on my Mac I only need Xcode installed or Visual Studio For Mac Xamarin also?

According to the documentation (Link) :

  1. Mac OS X El Capitan (10.11) or higher
  2. Xamarin iOS SDK.
  3. Apple’s Xcode(7+) IDE and iOS SDK (latest recommended version).

Not required according to requirements (VS2017 for mac or Xamarin Studio). To get the standalone installer Xamarin iOS SDK it is necessary to register for the forum (Xamarin), then go on: https://store.xamarin.com/account/my/subscription/downloads.

Follow the latest installer link to this date: https://xamarin.azureedge.net/installer/2017-01-10/XamarinInstaller.dmg

Although not necessary, the advantage of installing the VS2017 is the possibility to upgrade to new versions in a simpler way. Already with standalone installer I don’t know how this would be possible, maybe just checking manually on the download page:

I believe the installation in conjunction with the VS2017 for MAC is the best option even if you don’t use it directly for development.

On Mac you will need the Xcode and Visual Studio or Xamarin Studio, together with all SDK (usually downloaded together with Xamarin studio or visual studio).

Also don’t forget to release Remote Login on your Mac, anything see the documentation here
