What are the problems and limitations of Java?

You can work out Java, but with thoughtfulness and knowledge of the cause, without being carried away by the emotional. Preferably citing which alternative is better than the corresponding behavior in Java and why.

I hope the question is constructive.

    Java can cause hypertension, palpitation, sleep loss and addiction. Oh, you’re talking about the Java of the late Sun, not that Java... It was bad.

    It is too wide because Java has many problems :p

  • But how can I specify them without knowing before enumerating them? :)

    @Piovezan to Kathy Sierra, who is sort of a "grandmother" of Java (she trained the crew at Sun who developed the platform) spent more than a decade enumerating Java’s problems in books, blogs and other publications. Everything she wrote should give 10 to 15 stacked bibles of text. Good research and good reading.

  • In time: like any other technology, the problem of Java is not Java itself, but how a multitude of people misuse it for all sorts of reasons.

Much of what was considered bad in Java no longer exists, but its philosophy, although changing a little, still makes the development a little tedious. But it’s more like it. The ecosystem is huge and redundant. It’s hard to choose what to use. There are techniques that are often used in Java that are worse than the language itself. It pays the price of having been developed before the time. It has its merits too. It’s improving where it can. So much so that it now copies everything from C# D C# has its faults, too. Like all languages.

    @Renan has some more specific reference? Something organized? Or you have to go searching at random? I was curious.

  • @bigown I don’t know anything organized. Even because the problems of Java were very diverse and dispersed. If anyone knows anything, I would love to know too. Even to have more background when presenting a comparative technology to someone.
