there’s a lot of stuff on the internet, search about Data Warehouse, data mining and business intelligence (BI) . is a very interesting area to study and apply.
in short, it is the extraction of data from a larger database, which you use for some other purpose.
but come on :
Staging Area is a temporary data repository to help you build the Data Warehouse. there you do the treatment as data extraction and cleaning. many do this extraction through ETL (Extraction, Treatment and Cleaning).
Data Mart is a data repository, data subset of a Data Warehouse. Imagine the following situation. A company has for one year registered in its database all sales and billing information. So she wants to hold a sales forecast for next year. Based on this information, I can create a Data Map, extracting and grouping and cleaning this information so that sellers make a sales forecast. Based on this I can generate a BI tool, so that managers follow the progress during the year of this forecast.
