There is how to remove the "extract here" option from a sfx (.exe) file created with Winrar?

Note: The option "extract here" is presented in the submenu, by right clicking under the file. Any other . exe as long as it is not a sfx does not display this option.

I wonder if there is any way to remove this option.

As far as I know this is a feature of the program, configurable during the installation of Winrar. The fact that there is an entry in the context menu may be characteristic of Winrar for files that it knows as self-extracting packages.

Follow the menu in this sequence:

  • Options > Preferences
    • Integration tab > Shell
      • Items from the contents menu

There you define all the options you want in the menu. There may be some variation in the terminology used, depending on the translation of the version in question, but usually the path is similar to this.

  • Yes, it is a context menu for Sfxs. Your solution solves the problem locally. But not on other machines. Is there a command line within the sfx (.exe) that allows the call of this submenu.

  • The problem is that the menu is probably not in the sfx, but the sfx is associated with the machine Winrar. The option should not appear on a machine without Winrar (appears ?). To be honest, here only use 7zip, that extracts . rar too, so I don’t even remember the "face" of Winrar.

  • 7z also shows the option in context. Only the option does not appear if it is not a self-extracting . exe. I wanted to prevent extraction by this method.

  • I don’t know if it would, but maybe compacting the SFX exe with UPX had some effect on disassociating from Winrar and consequently not showing the menu. But only by testing.

  • I’ve done that too. It didn’t work. UPX just compresses the code.
