Good afternoon, I’m starting my studies at e-commerce Magento and I would like to know who already has some experience with this platform which version to use. In this case, this latest version 2.0.7 would be a good alternative or should I use some previous version?

Thank you.

  • the most unstable ever or the one you have the ugliest

Version two of Magento is very good - I really liked it. But, commercially I couldn’t use it. One point you should consider is the availability of modules. We had difficulties in finding payment and freight modules for the Brazilian gateways. Commercially still recommend the 1.9.2.x.

  • @cbonomini thanks for the answer, I am in doubt precisely for this availability of payment modules, after I installed the latest version I did a quick search and it seems that it is commercially unviable.

I did not understand why the negative question, I did only because I could not find recent publications about the latest version.

Whoever did it must think that the answers here can be based on opinion and not on facts.

Avoid starting a new business under an old version of a platform as they are usually outdated, without warranties and support. You will also have a relatively high cost of time and money with upgrades, not to mention problems arising from bugs that are usually fixed in the latest versions.

Note that this is not only valid for Magento. This is valid for any platforms.

There may be exceptions where you will be forced to use an old version, but this is very rare and can be solved in smarter ways to avoid the use of something outdated to the maximum.

Additionally, also avoid "abandoning" the platform. Whenever an upgrade appears, do so in a test environment and then upgrade to the production environment. Therefore, once installed, it needs constant maintenance. These popular platforms are always releasing new updates on an average of 1 every 2 months. Each update of these brings several changes and usually bug fixes and can also cause new bugs that should be fixed as soon as possible.

Do not let to upgrade after 1, 2, 3 years, for example, because usually becomes a nightmare due to the accumulation of unexpected bugs.

From what I saw of customers and even got to mecher with Magento, unless mistake until February 2016 Magendo 1.9.1 was used by large companies(Walmart, Nike, ford). But payment companies also have to readjust to use the new 2.x. So I recommend the 2.x because soon the big companies that use should migrate too, because plugins may no longer be created by the developers and the community version, causing a higher cost for the continuation of the platform.

Also validating that there is integration from 1.9 to 2.x for those who are still users of 1.9.
