How to prevent and remedy when a web server crashes?

I’d like the experience of you.

I currently use a server that is very unstable. For many times its FTP drops, and this week the server was out for 2 days.

The problem is that we don’t know when a server is going to crash and the site is going to be off the air. I would therefore like to know what measures I should take to prevent such an event, and what I should do when I fall.

Of course, when it comes to host failure, there is nothing to do, and then I would have to go for remediation, but I think about using a monitoring tool to measure traffic and stuff, so I can know in advance the "problems".

I also think the best way to remedy it is to have a host on hold, so if something happens, I switch the DNS note to the new host and my site goes live.

What would you do to prevent and remedy this sort of thing?

  • Sincerely changes to Amazon, never had problems with Server. It can cost more will be worth every penny invested. My opinion.

  • @Marconi, I was thinking that too but we have to have a bigger volume of people on the site to do this, so for now I’ll have to stay on that host. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • I have seen one of the oracle, it seems to be very good too, it is much more in account than Amazon. Which server you use?

  • @Marconi, I’m on Hostnet today, but it’s been out since Wednesday. I had to call them all the way from Saturday to get back to me this morning with a solution, but they’re still working on it.

  • William doesn’t think it’s time to change? A server that stays off the air for 5 days is a long time, and what about your clients? Would they accept that?

  • @Marconi, really it’s absurd this, kind of caught off guard... I called there at Oracle and they do not host website, only DB and RPM. Anyway we will look for another host solution. Thanks!

  • William Amazon offers free machines, but the hardware is not like that. I even have two free accounts there that serve me very well on my web sites.

  • @Marconi, can you tell if it’s that free machine for 1 year and then have to pay? Or is it free forever?

Changing DNS servers generates wait time for update. I understand that the solution is to have a more reliable server. I would investigate the cause.

But to monitor whether a hostname is on the air use an online service and monitoring. For example, the Uptime Robot: https://uptimerobot.com

Or else the http://www.host-tracker.com/

Find on Google by: website Monitoring (https://goo.gl/P4wVyd)
