In PHP, it seems that this operator :: has a Hebrew name (I don’t know why anyone would use Hebrew), Paamayim Nekudotayim.

I always have a problem when I have to explain to someone the name of that operator, since I do not know the pronunciation of the name mentioned above.

I always say: Two-point

Is there any other name by which the operator can be called ::?

It was an Israeli programmer who inserted the constant T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM (= double-Colon = double-colon) in an old version of the Zend parser and created confusion. Often the error Unexpected T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM.... I don’t know if they changed that name internally today.

  • They haven’t changed @bfavaretto. This error usually occurs (I use PHP 5.5)

Well, according to the manual, it’s the Operador de Resolução de Escopo, or - the simplest term suggested by the manual - dois pontos duplo.

Link of the manual in PT-BR.

Operator of Resolution of Scope is more beautiful than two-point

"two-point", much simpler, objective and easy to understand.

    "double Colon" also.
