How to configure the java version?

Following the step by step of the lesson 1.3 Introduction to Maven, we have the following code (replace square brackets for braquets):

The java version configuration is at 1.8. However, the official configuration is still 1.5. I have used Maven->Update Project->Ok, which in the video went well, but in my eclipse not its right, continued 1.5.

In addition, the Eclipse points to an error on line 6 ([version]0.0.1-SNAPSHOT[/version]). Force update of Maven did not solve the problem, contrary to what the teacher said in the video.

How to solve?

  • Your eclipse must be forcing the compilation into 1.5 do this : properties > java compiler > compiler complience level > 1.8

The tag <source>1.8</source> is not in the right place.
