Upgrade binary format/source

I am starting to learn Java and trying to open a project from the NETBEANS EXAMPLES folder. The following message appears: UPGRADE THE PROJECT BINARY/SOURCE FORMAT TO THE SUPPORTED MINIMUM(1.6). Where do I perform this upgrade? Thank you, Hadrian.

I believe the problem lies in the version of your JDK installed. In the link above, have the netbeans itself downloaded with JDK already, try to install it and check if it solves your problem.
