I use Texstudio (Latex) and today I worked all day in a chapter of my thesis.

I stopped now the night and when I came back I put it to save one more time before exporting to the cloud and to my external hard drive, but suddenly the computer erased.

I called again, he came back, but my chapter I wrote is 31 kb in size and appears blank. I don’t know what else to do, any suggestions so I don’t lose my job?

I’m on Windows 8.1

  • Take a look at the "Appdata Local Temp User" folder and see if you have anything familiar. These folders are hidden and you must enable display of hidden items in Win Explorer to be able to view.

According to this topic on Texexchange Texstudio does not save temporary copies of your file (There is even this option but amazing how it seems it is disabled by default), IE, you have to press to save regularly.

To activate it go on Configure TexStudio -> Advanced Editor -> Special Options -> Auto Save All Files (See that by default she is in Never)

Another option, which I even used in my TCC, is to use the Sharelatex. There is also the Overleaf but he bought Sharelatex and now they are one company.

  • Thank you to everyone who tried to help me. I lost a day’s work but already started and will finish tomorrow. It was only 10 pages but with the PDF facilitated . I knew this option of Texstudio.I am now saving directly in the Shared Folder on Google drive that keeps the changes. Thank you all.
