What is "webkit"

WebKit is a rendering engine used in web browsers to render pages. The WebKit is used by browsers such as the Google Chrome and the Safari.

The WebKit is written primarily in C++ but provides ports, or bindings, to various languages and frameworks, such as Objective-C, Qt, Gtk+ and EFL.

The WebKit was originated by Apple Inc. from the KHTML library for use in the Safari browser, but as an open source project, today it is maintained by developers from various organizations such as KDE Project, Apple Inc., Google, Nokia and Samsung. Mac OS X, Windows, GNU/Linux and other Unix-like Operating Systems are supported by the project.

Most components of the project WebKit is available under Lgplv2 and BSD-style licenses.
