What is "vagrant"

Vagrant is an open source tool for building complete development environments. With a workflow and focus on easy-to-use automation, Vagrant reduces setup time for development environments and increases development/production parity.

Vagrant was started in January 2010 by Mitchell Hashimoto. For nearly three years, Vagrant was a side project of Mitchell’s, a project he worked on in his spare time after working full-time. During this time Vagrant grew to be reliable and used by a range of people for development teams in large companies.

In November 2012, Hashicorp was formed by Mitchell to support the development of Vagrant full-time. Hashicorp builds commercial plug-ins and provides professional support and training for Vagrant.
