What is "relationship"

A relational database is a database that models the data in a way that the user perceives them as tables, or more formally relations.

The term is applied to the data itself, when organized in this way, or to a Relational Database Management System (DBMS) - from the Relational database management system (RDBMS) - a computer program that implements abstraction.
