ODBC is a standard for access to database management systems. This standard defines a set of interfaces that allow the use of programming languages such as Visual Basic, Delphi, Visual C++, Java, among others capable of using these interfaces, to gain access to a wide range of distinct databases without the need to encode specialised access methods.
