What is "mpeg"

The Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) - in Portuguese Grupo de Especialistas em Imagens com Movimento - was formed by ISO to define standards for audio and video compression and transmission.

Video, audio, or any other information for an MPEG encoded service shall be multiplexed in a single bit stream.

Although an MPEG stream represents a constant bit stream, bits need to be organized into groups (packets) so bit errors do not propagate beyond the boundaries of a single package.

Generally, the larger the package, the more susceptible it is to bit errors.
