What is "mono"
The Mono is an open source project that started in 2001 as an implementation of the Framework .net to Unix. The project was created and is led by Miguel de Icaza, the same creator of Gnome and is all based on the standards opened by Microsoft’s Runtime .net (CLR) and language c#.
Currently the Project Mono enables application development. NET for platforms: Windows, Linux, Unix (Solaris and BSD), Mac OS X, iOS and Android (using commercial libraries from Xamarin), Nintendo Wii and Sony Playstation 3.
