What is "ipv4"

Internet Protocol (in English: Internet Protocol, or the acronym IP) is a communication protocol used between two or more networked machines for data forwarding.

Both in the TCP/IP model and in the OSI model, the important Internet IP protocol is in the layer entitled network layer.

Currently IPV4 is being replaced by its new version, the IPV6, that among other advantages has a much larger number of possible addresses.
