What is "desktop-application"

Desktop applications are those developed to run on desktop computer operating systems (or desktops) or portable (laptops or notebooks) - such as Windows, macos and the most common Linux distributions.

The term contrasts with:

• "mobile apps" (for devices such as mobile phones and tablets)
• "web applications" (running within a browser)
• "embedded applications" (for other miscellaneous equipment such as Tvs, industrial equipment, etc).
