What is "debian"

Debian is a GNU/Linux distribution whose main feature is universality. That is, we try to make it an Operating System of free character, and that can be used anywhere in the world, by anyone. Debian is run by over 1500 volunteers around the globe. Each package, be it a program, library or document, is responsible for the so-called maintainer, whose tasks include compiling and fixing package bugs.
