Asterisk
Asterisk is open source Free software that implements in software the resources found in a conventional PABX, using Voip technology. He was created by Mark Spencer in 1999.
Initially developed by Digium, today it receives contributions from programmers around the world. Its development is active and its application area very promising.
Characteristics
Asterisk uses open protocols such as SIP, MGCP and IAX to signal telephone calls over the TCP/IP network.
It is possible to use Asterisk as:
Media gateway - Between the RTPC and the IP network (making use of special hardware). URA or Media server - Playing pre-programmed or interactive messages via DTMF, such as hold music or call menu. Voice mail - Allowing to record messages PABX IP - Doing intra- and inter-terminal call forwarding control.
