I’ve been developing an enterprise management system for some time. I need to add to it the electronic invoice issuance functionality in the Brazilian standard.
Is there a well tested and preferably free and open source Java library that will help me with this?

I know of jNFE and of Jenifer. I didn’t use either, but I put more faith in Jenifer. In github they also have the Caelum-Stella, which has an Nfe module, although not documented on the wiki.
Alias, documentation is what is not lacking in these projects: there is no lack of what to do in relation to documentation! :)
How is the resourcefulness of these projects? Mainly from Caelum-Stella, some like jNFE were discontinued.

I am one of the developers of a java library for Nfe 3.10, has several features besides batch sending. It has several unit tests (+1000) plus has Setter-level value validations and validates against an xsd in batch shipment, plus the concern of being easy to use :)
You need a configuration class and the library Facade to communicate with Sefaz.

I was interested in your question because some time ago I did an Nfe pilot project using Ruby and the information is really harder to find.
Looking at the website of the Secretariat of the Farm of SP, has an NFE emitter, made in Java. http://www.emissornfe.fazenda.sp.gov.br/download_v2.html
If you take a look at the jnlp manifest that it downloads, it has several libraries (jars) that could be useful.
Since it apparently doesn’t work on the Mac, I couldn’t dig any deeper. I don’t know if I could download these jars, if they have documentation and what kind of license.
Is just one inter for you to investigate.

You probably already know the Acbr Project which is mainly made for Delphi. They have an executable software (Acbr Monitor) that is in the machine’s Systray and will be waiting for commands in the syntax of the Acbr components. Because it works in Java also.

Hello! If you have service note involved and your software’s main goal is not to issue notes, integrate it into a invoice webservice. Because this component, mainly NFSE, needs constant updating, apart from the numerous feces that the municipalities have all kinds of problems and do not take the blame. I currently use and state www.enotasgw.com.br. In the case of product note I indicate the ACBR, because it is a more mature project and has several other components that can be useful to you, such as tax coupon and etc. The contraindication is to need windows server.
